Oscar Piastri will drive alongside Esteban Ocon as Alpine F1 teammates for the 2023 Formula 1 season, the team announced Aug. 2.
Piastri joins the team after spending four years as part of the Alpine race team in one form or another, most recently playing the role as a reserve driver for Alpine’s F1 team.
The Australian has won the championship in every series he’s raced in the past three years, including last year’s FIA Formula 2 championship.
Piastri will replace two-time F1 champion Fernando Alonso after it was announced the Spaniard will move to Aston Martin in 2023.
As of the Hungarian Grand Prix last Sunday, Alpine F1 Team sits fourth in the constructors’ standings with current drivers Ocon and Alonso in eighth and 10th in the drivers’ standings, respectively.
