Kyle Larson’s lap speed of 117.177 mph in the second round of NASCAR Cup Series qualifying was enough to snag the pole for the Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond Raceway Saturday (Aug. 13).
It’s Larson’s 13th career pole and third of the season for the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports driver.
He edged out Ross Chastain, who held the fastest lap from the start of the second round until Larson went out. Chastain joins Larson on the front row, while Denny Hamlin and William Byron make up the second row. Alex Bowman rounds out the top five starters.
Martin Truex Jr. begins sixth, while Cole Custer slots in seventh. Brad Keselowski, Erik Jones and Ryan Blaney complete the top 10. Blaney had just kissed the wall during his lap.
The Federated Auto Parts 400 airs Sunday, Aug. 14 at 3 p.m. ET on USA Network.
