Xfinity Qualifying Canceled; Sammy Smith Wins Atlanta Pole

NASCAR Xfinity Series #18: Sammy Smith, Joe Gibbs Racing, Pilot Flying J Toyota Supra NKP

Rain takes its second and final qualifying session of the day.

Last week’s NASCAR Xfinity Series winner Sammy Smith will receive the pole at Atlanta as rain continues to flood the track at Atlanta Motor Speedway. This is Sammy Smith’s first Xfinity Series pole. Smith wins the pole based off NASCAR’s metric system.

Positions are based off previous race finish (50%), owner points (35%), and fastest lap in previous race (15%).

Based off NASCAR’s metric system, Smith’s Joe Gibbs Racing teammate John Hunter Nemechek will start alongside him, with points leader Austin Hill in third. Fellow Joe Gibbs Racing driver Ryan Truex begins fourth while Riley Herbst finishes the top five.

Chandler Smith, Sheldon Creed, Cole Custer, Josh Berry and Sam Mayer round out the top 10.

There was one DNQ for today’s race, that being the No. 74 of Dawson Cram.

With brighter skies in the forecast for tomorrow, the Xfinity Series will take the green flag for the RAPTOR King of Tough 250 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 18 at 5 p.m. ET. FOX Sports 1 will provide broadcasting for the race.
