Sheldon Creed Strong at Millbridge, Friesen Has Strong Words

NASCAR Xfinity Series

A return to the East Coast and the season opener at Millbridge Speedway saw NASCAR’s representation in dirt racing explode over the past week.

Christopher Bell

The Cup Series regular did not race at Millbridge this past week, but his race team did enter two wingless micro sprints at the track for Wednesday’s season opener (March 15).

Both Jadan Bowling and Gavan Boschele failed to transfer to Wednesday’s A-main, falling one and two spots of a transfer spot in the second B-main.

Sheldon Creed

The Xfinity Series regular came up just short of his second win of 2023 at Millbridge, leading laps but ultimately proving unable to catch Brent Crews for the wingless micro sprint trophy Wednesday night (Creed technically finished third after suffering a mechanical failure on the white-flag lap).

Creed, who has been a regular at Millbridge in recent years, has demonstrated obvious improvement behind the wheel of a micro sprint and also is featuring sponsorship from NXS backer Whelen Engineering for his micro exploits.

Stewart Friesen

The Truck Series regular did not race dirt this past week, but his dirt race colors were definitely showing with a provocative Tweet.

Tanner Gray

The Truck Series regular was a fixture in the top five early in the wingless micro sprint feature at Millbridge Wednesday, even challenging Creed for position in the going. A mid-race spin, however, buried Gray and left him to finish 18th.

Kasey Kahne

The former Cup Series regular had a rough outing with the World of Outlaws sprint cars at Lincoln Speedway in Pennsylvania on Saturday. In an ultra-competitive field of 49 cars, Kahne was buried after early-race contact with James McFadden in his heat race sent Kahne to a loaded Last Chance Showdown.

Kahne had to take an emergency provisional to make the field and started 30th. Though Kahne improved nine positions over the course of the feature, a 21st-place finish had to be a disappointment given that his teammate Brad Sweet finished second and Kahne previously won at this track in 2016.
