Flying H Dragstrip Not Joining NHRA Tour In 2024?

In July, the all-new Flying H Dragstrip, being built in Odessa, Missouri, a short drive from the Kansas City metro, made headlines when the National Hot Rod Association announced its intention to add the new venue to the 2024 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series calendar. When the schedule was released in September, it included a pair of to-be-announced dates — one in late June, one in mid-July. The former was eventually filled by the Virginia Motorsports Park’s return to the tour, while Flying H — the Kansas City market’s replacement for the long-running Heartland Motorsports Park — was presumed to be in line for the other.

However, Flying H officials released their inaugural season schedule last week, with a two-day bracket racing event on the NHRA’s open July 12-14 date, suggesting the facility is no longer in line to receive a national event in 2024.

DRAGZINE has reached out to NHRA and Flying H officials for comment, but messages were not returned as of press time. Sources suggest the track’s inclusion in the national event schedule may begin in 2025.

Flying H will open April 11, and will host a double NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional June 13-16, along with a series of bracket racing points events, the Mid-West Drag Racing Series, a potential Street Outlaws No Prep Kings date, Street Car Takeover, and other special events.
