Project Number Cruncher Hits The Track At Norwalk

We recently made a bunch of suspension upgrades to our Project Number Cruncher Firebird and did some testing. The old Pontiac did pretty good, so it was time to see what the car would do running the full quarter-mile. We loaded Number Cruncher up and headed to America’s Racetrack, Summit Motorsports Park, to compete in the Street King class at the NMCA All-American Nationals.

Since we only had a chance to make a total of two test passes on the car before the NMCA event, we really weren’t sure how consistent it would be after several runs. We also weren’t sure what the car would do running the full 1320 feet since we only made eight-mile hits at Kil Kare. Our first pass showed Number Cruncher was ready to run with a nice 9.98 lick.

We were gunning for the 10.00 index in Street King, so Number Cruncher would need to be slowed down a bit. After finding our spot on where to chop the throttle on the track, the car was laying down consistent runs in the 10.00s. The new upgrades were causing the car to react a little too well, and the ugly red light started showing up.

Project Number Cruncher qualified with a 10.05, not bad, but that got us a first-round date with the current world champion of the Street King class. A -.008 red light ended our weekend early, however, the car was deadly consistent and that’s what we’re gunning for.
