It’s become common for drivers to mark special races with a one-off helmet design.
But Pierre Gasly has taken the unusual step of having not one, but two different designs for this weekend’s Qatar Grand Prix.
Max Verstappen and George Russell have stuck to convention by just bringing one – and coincidentally both are sporting white lids. Here’s a look at all of them.
Pierre Gasly’s 2024 Qatar Grand Prix helmets
Gasly, who achieved the only front row start of his career in the first Qatar Grand Prix three years ago, is marking his return to the Losail International Circuit with two different designs. He used one on Friday and one on Saturday at the track.
They were created by Qatari artists Mubarak Al-Thani and Mohammed Al Emadi. Al-Thani’s creation takes inspiration from Moroccan street art, incorporating Qatari architecture, marking the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture. Al Emadi’s design draws inspiration from the traditional Qatari shal symbol.
Max Verstappen’s 2024 Qatar Grand Prix helmet
There’s no mistaking the point of Verstappen’s latest lid. He’s celebrating the fourth consecutive world championship he won in Las Vegas last week.
George Russell’s 2024 Qatar Grand Prix helmet
Like Verstappen, Russell also has a white lid, though his is part of a promotion for a sponsor. He and team mate Lewis Hamilton are also wearing white race suits.
