Ferrari F1-75 filming day stoppage at Monza was a tactical move

According to a report, Ferrari’s stoppage out on the Monza track during their filming day was done by design, not because of a problem.

The Scuderia were on home turf on Friday, completing a filming day in their 2022 challenger, the F1-75.

Charles Leclerc was behind the wheel, with Motorsport.com reporting that he completed 17 laps, for which he “alternated short runs with long stops”.

The test did not, however, pass without what initially appeared to be a worrying scene.

“There was a rumour that the red car had suffered electrical problems with the 066/7 power unit, as the F1-75 stalled at the end of the straight, just before the Variante and then was not restarted,” the report reveals.

Motorsport.com add that the F1-75 was then retrieved by the mechanics and brought back to the pit lane.

There was though a far less concerning explanation for why that happened.

The regulations state that a maximum distance of 100km may be covered during a filming day, with Motorsport.com revealing that had Leclerc completed that lap, then Ferrari would have gone beyond that limit.

The report adds that the test was very much held behind closed doors with all access points to the Monza track locked down, as “Ferrari tried to choose a date for the filming day that was also functional to the debut of the first developments of the F1-75 that will debut at the next Spanish GP.”

Ferrari’s first major upgrade of the 2022 season and this new regulatory era has reportedly been designed to save between two to three kilograms of weight.

That being said, Motorsport.com state that these new features were not on show at the test, one overseen by an FIA commissioner following Ferrari’s floor controversy at the Imola Pirelli tyre test.
