A report from Italy claims the significant upgrades brought to Barcelona by Ferrari could gain them significant lap time, potentially up to four tenths of a second per lap.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report that, “at least on paper”, a new floor and diffuser on the F1-75 could bring a healthy chunk of extra performance which will help Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in Barcelona.
Pictures have also been circulated on social media with the updated Ferrari in the pit lane in Spain, with an upgraded rear wing also visible on the car ahead of the weekend.
Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto said that he believes the Scuderia’s deficit to Red Bull is “maximum a couple of tenths” after the Miami weekend,
Formula 1 technology expert Albert Fabrega said ahead of the weekend that the team will only find out how successful they will have been in closing the gap to Red Bull once they take to the track, but he is expecting Ferrari to “step forward” in Spain.

“There is a pack coming to Barcelona, a big upgrade, apparently,” Fabrega told the F1 Nation podcast. “You [don’t] know the upgrades that are big or small till you put them on the track. So we will see.
“We are expecting Ferrari to step forward. Because as we see on the last race, Red Bull is a little bit ahead of them in all senses.
“So they need a bigger step, I would say, if they want to keep that momentum to Red Bull to try to stay on top and keep that that leading position that they are on Constructors’ [Championship], and also in Drivers’ with Charles Leclerc.”
On track, Sainz is looking for his first Formula 1 race victory and is desperate to make that step in front of his home crowd, and begin to close the gap to team-mate Leclerc at the top of the World Championship.
