Just a week after the Italian Grand Prix, MotoGP continues to Spain for its second race in the country this year – this time at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Reigning world champion Fabio Quartararo comes into the Barcelona weekend leading the standings by eight points from Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro, after a strong ride to second on his underpowered Yamaha behind race winner Francesco Bagnaia on the Ducati in Italy.

Aleix Espargaro comes into his home race in Barcelona with his future secured after Aprilia announced it had signed him to a new two-year deal last week and is on a purple run of four-successive podium finishes.

The big news of the Barcelona weekend is the absence of home hero Marc Marquez, who announced last week in Italy that he would be going to America for a fourth major operation on the right arm he badly broke in 2020 and will be sidelined for the foreseeable future.
