Max Verstappen will start on pole in Montreal for the first time in his career after he went quickest in a wet qualifying session.
Behind him, Fernando Alonso will start on the front row for the first time since 2012 after impressing throughout the session.
Carlos Sainz almost lost it going into the final corner but was able to hold on for P3 while Lewis Hamilton finished P4.
In Q3, George Russell gambled by moving onto the soft tyres but it proved to be the wrong choice as he was unable to keep the car on the track, sliding off and causing damage to his rear wing. He ended P8.
Earlier, Sebastian Vettel failed to convert his practice session pace into qualifying and was eliminated in Q1.
