S&W Performance Group Introduces New Clevis Style Swing Out Kit

Most vehicles that run 11.49 or quicker in the quarter mile require some type of roll bar or roll cage depending on their ET. For most dedicated race cars, this isn’t a big deal, but if you own a street/strip vehicle climbing over a door bar to get in and out can get old in a hurry. S&W Performance Group has a new clevis style swing out kit that can eliminate this issue while still keeping you safe.

According to the NHRA rules, vehicles that run 8.50 to 11.49 ETs can have a swingout added to the door bar of the roll bar or roll cage. What this does is allow the driver or passenger to remove a pin and swing the door bar out of the vehicle. This makes entering or exiting the vehicle much easier.

The concept of a clevis style swing out isn’t new, S&W has just found a way to make the design safer with their new kit.

When the pin is out of the clevis at the top of the swing out on the S&W kit the door bar can’t go past center. S&W created this setup by machining a flat stop into the clevis on the male side that rests against a stop on the female side. This is what prevents the door bar from going past center and into the driver’s compartment of the vehicle. The bottom clevis where the bar pivots has the same flat stops machined into it as well.

Each kit will come with a quick release pin, grade 8 hardware, a male and female clevis. The initial run of these kits is designed to work with 1-3/4″ x .134″ thick wall tubing. You can learn more about S&W’s new clevis style swing out kit right here on the company’s website.
