Martin Truex Jr. claimed the pole for the NASCAR Cup Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway after posting the fastest lap of 127.113 mph in the second round of qualifying Saturday, July 16.
Truex, who was the only one to go under 30 seconds in the second round, earned his first pole of the season and 20th of his career. It’s his first pole since July 14, 2018 at Kentucky Speedway.
Chase Elliott was just over 30 seconds and just under 127 mph; he’ll start alongside Truex on the front row. 23XI Racing’s Kurt Busch and Bubba Wallace make up the second row in third and fourth, while Truex’s Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Christopher Bell rounds out the top five.
Elliott’s Hendrick Motorsports cohort William Byron starts sixth, and Aric Almirola is seventh. Kyle Larson and Brad Keselowski begin eighth and ninth, respectively. Kevin Harvick had a big slide coming off turn 2 and shut his lap down before he finished; he’ll complete the top 10 starters.
The Ambetter 301 airs July 17 at 3 p.m. ET on USA Network.
