Kyle Larson Wins ESPY Best Driver Award – RacingJunk News

Defending NASCAR Cup Series Champion Kyle Larson brought back home the gold Wednesday night, winning the 2022 ESPY Award for Best Driver. Larson beat Formula 1’s Max Verstappen, IndyCar’s Alex Palou and NHRA’s Steve Torrence for the honor.

The 2022 ESPYS broadcasted on Wednesday on ABC from the Dolby Theater in Los Angles and was hosted by the NBA Champion and Finals MVP Stephen Curry. It marked the 29th release of the entertainment expo praising the best minutes and figures in sports.

Larson completed the 2021 season with 10 triumphs (excluding his victory in the NASCAR All-Star Race), 20 top-five completions and 26 top-10 appearances, all the most among NASCAR Cup Series drivers. He is one of just 11 drivers to score at least 10 wins in a season. He showed enormous adaptability, succeeding at street courses, middle-of-the-road ovals, and short tracks, featured by the Bristol Night Race, Coca-Cola 600 and NASCAR Championship Race at Phoenix.

Known for hustling whenever and anyplace, Larson likewise came out on top in 22 soil races in Late Models, Sprint Cars and Midgets. Most outstandingly, he won the Chili Bowl, Knoxville Nationals, Kings Royal and the Prairie Dirt Classic.

In common Larson style, he praised his ESPY by winning the World of Outlaws Sprint Car race at Port Royal Speedway (Pa.) Wednesday night.
