Rinus VeeKay Staying At ECR With Multi-Year Extension

Rinus VeeKay is ready to qualify for the Indianapolis 500

Rinus VeeKay will return to Ed Carpenter Racing in the NTT IndyCar Series for the foreseeable future, signing a contract extension with the team for 2023 and beyond, ECR announced Aug. 4.

The exact length of the deal was not announced.

The 21-year-old Dutchman had drawn interest from several teams once he hit free agency on Aug. 1 but will stay at the team he has spent his entire IndyCar career.

“I am very excited to continue with Ed Carpenter Racing for what will be my fourth year in the NTT IndyCar Series,” VeeKay said in a team release. “Ed Carpenter gave me the opportunity to drive for the team when I came out of Indy Lights and has let me showcase my talents in an Indy car ever since. The continuity at ECR is great, there have barely been any changes in my time here and it’s very nice to have the same group of people around me all the time.”

VeeKay is the 2020 IndyCar rookie of the year and has one career win to his name, which came in 2021 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

“I am so happy to be able to extend our relationship with Rinus; he is an extremely versatile and talented driver,” Carpenter added. “It has been and remains our hope to build our team to new heights with Rinus helping lead the charge. Our goals and expectations are to win races and to compete for championships.”

VeeKay currently sits 11th in the point standings with four races left in the season. He has one pole and one podium to his credit on the season, both coming at Barber Motorsports Park.
