William Byron won the pole for the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Watkins Glen International, posting a fast lap of 125.021 mph in the second round of qualifying.
His lap time of 1 minute, 10.548 seconds broke the track record; it was a half second faster than his first round.
Ty Gibbs went 124.506 mph in the second round and will slot second next to Byron on the front row.
Kyle Larson lines up third, but will drop to the rear on the pace laps as his team had to fix a carburetor issue. AJ Allmendinger, who was quickest in practice, starts fourth, while Cole Custer rounds out the top five.
Riley Herbst begins sixth, Sam Mayer is seventh, Austin Hill is eighth and Daniel Hemric rolls off ninth. Justin Allgaier, who made the top 10, had some brake issues and didn’t make a lap in the second round. He’ll drop to the rear on the pace laps as well.
Stanton Barrett, Austin Wayne Self and Spencer Pumpelly didn’t qualify for the event.
The Sunoco Go Rewards 200 at the Glen airs at 3 p.m. ET on USA Network.
