W Series confirms that Nerea Martí will take part in a Formula 3 test at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours, France, on 16-17 September.
Nerea is sixth in the 2022 W Series championship standings having recorded two podium finishes from six races during her second season. The Spaniard scored points in all eight races of her rookie campaign last year, resulting in a fourth-placed finish in the championship.
She will replace Tereza Babickova in this week’s Formula 3 test. The Czech driver was ruled out after sustaining a spinal injury while competing in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA) last weekend.
Nerea – who took part in a Formula 3 test at the same circuit last November – joins fellow W Series drivers Chloe Chambers and Abbi Pulling in France. Each driver will be testing for a full day, with two cars on track per day. The aim is to introduce the drivers to the category, its car, and different set-ups, along with the demands and challenges of its environment.
Nerea Martí (Quantfury W Series Team, 20, ESP) said:
“First of all, I hope Tereza has a speedy recovery and I look forward to seeing her back on track as soon as possible.
“I’m super excited to be taking part to this week’s Formula 3 tests. I was offered the same opportunity last year, and it was a really positive day during which I learned a lot. It will be really good to see my progression from last year and of course gain more experience with the F3 car.
“I really appreciate this great opportunity, and I want to thank Bruno Michel and his team, and also W Series for their support. I’m ready for it and I’m going to give my all again!”
Dave Ryan (Racing Director, W Series) said:
“Nerea has been very impressive in her W Series career so far. The consistency she displayed during her rookie season was remarkable and she has kicked on this year, becoming a regular contender at the head of the field and putting up a strong challenge to drivers with much more experience. She has already had a taste of the F3 car and, if she applies what she has learnt with us in the 12 months since then, she will perform strongly again. It’s a fantastic opportunity for her, and I hope that more come her way because there’s no doubt she has what it takes to make the step up.”
