Alex Bowman will not drive the No. 48 for Hendrick Motorsports at Talladega Superspeedway this weekend in the NASCAR Cup Series, Hendrick announced Sept. 29.
Bowman, according to a release, has been experiencing concussion-like symptoms following a wreck at Texas Motor Speedway last weekend.
Noah Gragson will fill in for Bowman in the No. 48.
A replacement for Gragson, who was initially entered in Beard Motorsports’ No. 62, has not been announced.
Bowman entered Talladega 12th in points, 30 points below the cut line for the Round of 8. His absence at Talladega would likely put him in a must-win situation at the final race of the Round of 12, the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL, if he’s cleared to race.
In 2022, Bowman has one win, four top fives and 12 top 10s.
Gragson’s best finish of 2022 in the Cup Series came at Daytona International Speedway, where he finished fifth for Beard.
