Ty Gibbs won the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Martinsville Speedway after bumping his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Brandon Jones on the last lap of overtime Saturday (Oct. 29).
Gibbs, who locked himself into the Championship 4 during the race, exited from his car to a crowd of boos from the fans. Gibbs’ contact with Jones sent the No. 19 back into the wall.
It’s Gibbs’ sixth win on the year and 10th of his career.
He’ll race for the championship against Noah Gragson, Justin Allgaier and Josh Berry.
Sheldon Creed was second, Riley Herbst was third, Noah Gragson is fourth and Justin Allgaier took home fifth.
During the race, several drivers incurred problems, starting about 33 laps into stage one. Patrick Emerling and Joe Graf Jr. spun and crashed in turn 2, with both cars suffering damage. Graf’s No. 07 had rear-end damage, while Emerling’s nose was hurt. Just as the caution came out for this, Kris Wright also got in the wall after some contact from another car.
With about three laps to go in stage one, Bayley Currey appeared to cut a tire and hit the wall hard. The caution didn’t come out, though, and he went to the garage with a damaged right-front.
Brandon Jones won stage one. However, he didn’t restart in the lead, as Noah Gragson had pitted earlier and assumed the first position on lap 71.
Gibbs got by Gragson about 20 laps before the next caution came out for Landon Cassill. On lap 106, the No. 10 wheel hopped in turn 3 and hit the wall similarly to Currey.
“Just wheel-hopped into [turn] 3, same way Daniel [Hemric] did in practice,” Cassill told Frontstretch’s Michael Massie afterward. “My fault.”
Cassill added that he’s “still not over this one, I had this race circled.”

Jones pitted during this yellow-flag period while several others stayed out.
On the next restart, Gibbs briefly lost the lead to Allgaier, taking it back on lap 113 when the No. 7 got loose. The No. 54 went on to win stage two.
Gibbs and others pitted during this break, allowing for another new leader: the No. 8 of Josh Berry. Berry held onto the top spot for several laps until JJ Yeley wheel hopped and spun around into the wall, getting some damage.
All of the lead lap cars came down pit road, with Jones winning the race…
