Alfa Romeo has presented its new Formula 1 car for the 2023 season.
The team revealed its new C43 chassis in a specification which is understood to be close to that which will run when pre-season testing begins at Bahrain International Circuit in two weeks’ time.
The Sauber-run team heads into the new season carrying the branding of Alfa Romeo for the final time having agreed a deal to rebrand as Audi in 2026.
The team produced its most competitive performance for years in 2022. They rose to sixth in the constructors championship, their highest finishing position in a decade.
However much of that success was achieved as a result of their strong start to the season. Their points-scoring tailed off sharply in the second half of the year, allowing Aston Martin to draw level on points with them at the final race, Alfa Romeo only outranking them in the final classification by dint of having a higher finish in an individual race.
The driver who produced that result, Valtteri Bottas, will remain at the team for a second season, as does Zhou Guanyu following a debut season which showed more promise than points.
