Ferrari have confirmed their car for the 2023 Formula 1 season will be named the SF-23.
F1’s oldest team is the only one which has traditionally avoided the convention of incrementing its car names from year to year. Last year’s car was called the F1-75 to mark the company’s 75th anniversary.
Ferrari has restored the prefix ‘SF’, which was used for their car names between 2015 and 2021, ending with the SF21. Its predecessor was the SF1000, which was named in reference to the team contesting its 1,000th world championship race that year.
Last year’s F1-75 was the first Ferrari to win a race since the SF90, which raced in 2019. Other members of Ferrari’s ‘SF’ line of cars include the SF15-T, SF16-H, SF70H and SF71H, which raced between 2015 and 2018.
The team is seeking its first world championship title since winning the constructors’ title 15 years ago with the F2008.
Ferrari are due to reveal their latest car one week from today. Drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jnr have been retained for a third year together as team mates, while Frederic Vasseur has replaced Mattia Binotto as team principal.
