John Hunter Nemechek notched his first win for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Xfinity Series Sunday (Feb. 26) night, after being Nemechek was the unlucky second place finisher last week in Daytona. It’s his first Xfinity win since the 2021 season.
Nemechek held off a late charge from Sam Mayer, who finished second, and a good restart by Justin Allgaier, who finished in third. Chandler Smith and Josh Berry rounded out the top five.
The dominant car early in the race belonged to Cole Custer, who was the defending race winner. It wasn’t meant to be for the former Cup driver as an incident involving Austin Dillon caused Custer to finish 27th. Contenders Brandon Jones and Sheldon Creed found trouble early, but Creed was able to recover for a respectable finish.
The NASCAR Xfinity Series will return next weekend from Las Vegas at 4:30 on FS1.
