McLaren Motorsport confirms the new 720S GT3 EVO

McLaren Motorsport confirms the new 720S GT3 EVO, designed to build on the success of the 720S at the head of the international GT3 field into the 2023 season and beyond.

Available as a new-build race car or an update package to an existing car, the 720S GT3 EVO will be homologated for the 2023 season. The changes reflect learnings from the 720S GT3, which has been a front-running GT3 car since its first race, and feedback from teams, continuing a programme of GT race cars designed to be accessible to customer outfits and drivers of all abilities that includes the new Artura GT4.

The 720S GT3 EVO distinguishes itself from its predecessor with several key bodywork improvements, including the front bumper and splitter – fitted with quick-release fastenings for easy removal and replacement. These features improve aerodynamics and are designed to increase overall downforce, shift the overall balance forwards, and make the car more consistent in traffic.

A front bonnet gurney also helps with balance and improves cooling performance, while the auxiliary lamps have been repositioned for better night visibility in longer-distance events. At the rear, engineers can easily adjust the wing pylon mechanism, and the rear wing gurney is taller to enhance downforce without upsetting the overall balance.

Teams can find many more improvements in the 720S GT3 EVO’s suspension, which now features all-new TTX40 Ohlins 4-way adjustable dampers with high-frequency pistons and adjustable lengths. Both front and rear upper wishbones have been changed, with the front now adjustable to improve tyre management options, including a new clevis for increased droop. The rear has an improved geometry to suit upright changes.

The 720S GT3 EVO’s brakes now have closed-face bells for improved disc durability. The uprights are also new, with the front featuring a bolted brake calliper for quick changes of the whole system as a unit and a built-in track rod clevis, making it more robust in wheel-to-wheel contact situations. This also applies to the rear upright, which has improved tyre management geometry, increasing setup options.

The 720S GT3 EVO is available to order now. Existing 720S GT3 owners and teams can purchase a complete update kit with the option to use existing hub units or with complete upright assemblies.

Ian Morgan, Director of Motorsport, McLaren Automotive, commented, ‘The McLaren 720S GT3 has been an incredible success in GT3 racing since its phenomenal…
