The Grand Prix Commission have made a number of decisions that will immediately come into effect this season
The Grand Prix Commission, composed of Messrs. Carmelo Ezpeleta (Dorna, Chairman), Paul Duparc (FIM), Herve Poncharal (IRTA) and Biense Bierma (MSMA), assisted by Carlos Ezpeleta (Dorna), Mike Trimby (IRTA, Secretary of the meeting) and Corrado Cecchinelli (Director of Technology), in electronic meetings held in February 2023, made the following decisions. All regulation changes are effective immediately.
The rider will only represent one Nation listed as per their passport. In the case of multiple nationalities, the rider chooses which Nation they will represent at the beginning of their career when ordering their first FIM licence.
In case of loss or change of nationality or force majeure, the rider can request a change in Sport nationality to the FIM, only before the start of a season (when they order their new FIM licence).
The rider will compete during the whole season under their national flag, earning poles, sprint victories, podiums, wins and titles for that nation only.
Clarification of results in an interrupted qualifying session
In the case of a qualifying session being interrupted and unable to be restarted, the following will apply:
– If the session has run for at least 50% of the allocated time, the session will be considered to be complete and the results valid.
– If the session has completed less than 50% of the allocated time, the session will be considered to be cancelled and the results taken according to combined practice times. For the MotoGP™ class, the combined times are taken from P1 and P2. For the Moto2™ and Moto3™ classes, the combined timesheets are taken from P1-P2-P3.
Moto2™ RPM limit increase
Dorna, Triumph and Externpro have agreed on an updated engine specification for the Moto2 engine in 2023. As part of this specification, the RPM limit will be increased from 14,000rpm to 14,400rpm.
The new limit will be noted in the FIM GP Regulations Appendix item “Moto2™ Engine Operating Parameters”.
