Kaulig Appealing Penalty to No. 31 Team

Kaulig Racing is appealing the penalty assessed to Justin Haley’s No. 31 NASCAR Cup Series team following the race at Phoenix Raceway, the team announced March 16.

NASCAR took a louver from the team, as well as from all four Hendrick Motorsports cars, while at Phoenix. The sanctioning body handed down penalties of loss of 100 driver and owner points to all except Josh Berry (100 owner points only). Additionally, 10 playoff points were deducted and the crew chiefs were fined $100,000 and suspended for four races.

“Prior to qualifying on Saturday, only one of the two louvers on the No. 31 car was confiscated, showing inconsistencies in the parts provided to teams from NASCAR’s single source supplier, providing no competitive advantage,” Kaulig said in a statement.

Kaulig’s requesting for its crew chief suspension to be deferred until after the appeal hearing.

Hendrick is also appealing the penalties levied against the teams, but did not request deferment of the crew chief suspensions.
