Mother nature took over NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series qualifying at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Truck Series points leader and Daytona International Speedway winner Zane Smith earns the pole for the Fr8 208. Continuing rain showers soaked the track, and qualifying could not be run. Therefore, NASCAR will implement their metric system to determine the starting order for Saturday’s (March 18) race.
NASCAR’s metric system consists of three weighted categories: previous race finish (50%), owner points (35%), and fastest lap in previous race (15%).
As a result, fellow Ford driver Ty Majeski will join Smith on the front row. Majeski’s teammate Ben Rhodes will start third, and Christian Eckes and Carson Hocevar will complete the top five.
Corey Heim, Grant Enfinger, Matt Crafton, Chase Purdy and Matt DiBenedetto round out the top 10.
Since 36 trucks are entered, everyone qualified for the race.
Clearer skies are in the forecast for Saturday, and the Truck Series will drop the green flag at Atlanta Motor Speedway March 18 at 2 p.m. ET. Broadcasting will be aired on FOX Sports 1.
