For the first time since 1965, Fords qualified in the top eight positions for a NASCAR Cup Series event. Team Penske led the way with a sweep of the top three spots on Saturday (March 18) at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Joey Logano scored his second pole of the season and 28th of his career with a speed of 177.374 mph, beating teammate Austin Cindric by six one-thousandths of a second. Cindric will start second while Ryan Blaney will round out the Penske trio in third.
Brad Keselowski qualified fourth, while Aric Almirola completed the top five. Kevin Harvick will roll off sixth on Sunday (March 19), followed by Chris Buescher and Chase Briscoe to round out the eight Fords. Both Harvick and Briscoe recorded their best qualifying efforts of the 2023 season.
Kyle Larson led the non-Fords in ninth, while Christopher Bell, who spun coming to the green flag during his second-round lap, was relegated to 10th.
BJ McLeod, the first car on track, spun while trying to get up to speed for his first-round lap. Ty Gibbs hit the wall in turn four on his warm-up lap.
All 36 cars attempting the race qualified for the event.
The NASCAR Cup Series’ Ambetter Health 400 will take the green flag on Sunday, March 19, shortly after 3 p.m. ET on FOX.
