Defending NASCAR Cup Series Circuit of the Americas winner Ross Chastain picked up where he left off in Austin, Texas, albeit in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, winning the pole for the COTA Truck race this weekend.
Chastain, driving the No. 41 for Niece Motorsports, turned a lap of 91.877 mph to claim the pole.
He’s one of two Niece trucks in the top 10, as teammate Carson Hocevar timed his No. 42 sixth at 90.832 mph.
Chastain’s fellow Cup regular Kyle Busch qualified his No. 51 second (91.490 mph), with Ty Majeski third (91.225 mph).
Nick Sanchez and Christian Eckes rounded out the top five.
Hocevar, Zane Smith, Grant Enfinger, Tanner Gray and Kaz Grala completed the top 10.
A pair of drivers will make their series debut after timing their way in to the field. Ed Jones will drive Young’s Motorsports’ No. 20, while Dale Quarterley will pilot his own No. 46 in a partnership with G2G Racing.
Alex Bowman, Sam LeComte and Mason Massey failed to qualify. Bowman, driving Spire Motorsports’ No. 7, was unable to take a lap due to a flat tire, and Massey, in Reaume Brothers Racing’s No. 33, could not do so after an alternator issue.
The XPEL 225 is set for Saturday, March 24, at 1:30 p.m. ET. FOX Sports 1 will have television coverage.
