Jonathan Shafer Attempting Truck Debut at Martinsville

Jonathan Shafer will attempt his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut at Martinsville Speedway this weekend for On Point Motorsports, On Point announced April 10.

Shafer will look to qualify the No. 30 into the show.

“I’m beyond excited to make my first NASCAR Craftsman truck race with On Point Motorsports at one of my favorite tracks, Martinsville Speedway,” Shafer said in a team release. “I consider this to be my home track because my mom’s family lives right down the road and I have spent a lot of time in this area when I was growing up.”

The release noted that Shafer, 17, hopes to run seven additional races with On Point in 2023, though the rest of his schedule was not announced. He turns 18 on June 17.

Shafer competed in a pair of ARCA Menards Series East races in 2022 for Venturini Motorsports, one of which was a combination race with the main ARCA Menards Series circuit. His best finish came at Iowa Speedway, where he finished fourth.

Shafer is one of multiple drivers looking to make their Truck debut at Martinsville.

He’s the latest driver to be added to the On Point stable. Ryan Vargas and Chris Hacker are also running multiple races for the team in 2023.
