Formula E has unveiled the final version of the calendar for its 2024 season, 52 days before the opening race.

The first version of the calendar was published in June this year and revealed the series would expand to 17 rounds at 13 different tracks. However FE had only found 10 venues at that point.

Later on it lost Jakarta in Indonesia, and removed one of the to-be-confirmed slots from the calendar. But a solution was found to the loss of the latter by turning the trip to Portland in June into a double-header.

When Rome dropped off the calendar FE was left with only eight confirmed venues. However its double-header slot in April remained reserved for a replacement venue elsewhere in Italy if one could be found.

Two of the remaining TBC slots were filled last month, with FE returning to Hyderabad in India on 10th February and Shanghai International Circuit, the home of the Chinese Grand Prix, on May 25th-26th. FE’s return to China was turned into a double-header to make up for the cancellation of the Jakarta round.

That left the location of the Italian races as the only unknown prior to the final version of the calendar. The Misano track has now been revealed as the venue. It is not clear whether its races will be called the Italian EPrix or follow FE’s usual race-naming convention of using the name of the nearest city.

It will mark the first time top-level single-seater racing has taken place at Misano. The venue has not even held second-tier single-seaters in the modern era. Formula 3000’s European championship visited five times between 1999 and 2008, and European Formula 2 raced there in 1973 then from 1975 to 1984.

When European Formula 3 visited in 2018, current FE drivers Jehan Daruvala, Sacha Fenestraz and Dan Ticktum were among those on the grid. The track, named after late Moto GP racer Marco Simoncelli, holds one of Italy’s rounds of the top bike racing championship.

“FE is a great opportunity for our country and after many wonderful years in Rome, the next Italian EPrix will be held in Misano in 2024,” said Andrea Abodi, Italy’s minister for sport.

“It is important that Italy welcomes this event that promotes sustainable mobility and has an extraordinary charm. Motorsport holds a special place in the heart of Italians, and we have learned to appreciate these new cars that bring hope for the future and deliver a legacy of cutting-edge technology.”
