El General Racing Set Two Debut New 3,000 HP 2JZ Camry

Jose Gonzalez is no stranger to drag racing and is known for setting records when he is behind the wheel. Most recently, he claimed the mark for the quickest door car in drag racing history at the helm of Mark Micke’s Pro Mod Camaro, running 5.359 seconds at 272.94 mph during testing for the Snowbird Nationals at Bradenton Motorsports Park in December. Now, he is poised to go after the world import record with a brand new 2024 Toyota Camry that just turned the FuelTech hub dyno shafts to the tune of 2,975.1 horsepower.

Based on a Jerry Bickel Race Cars chassis, the Camry was recently unveiled publicly at the Performance Racing Industry show and features the best-of-the-best in hardware. Gonzalez turned to Homier Fabrications to have the car wired and RK Racecraft turn-key’d the car after the 2JZ engine was dropped in.

The powerplant is based on a Mazworx Racing Engines solid billet 2JZ block that is topped with a heavily massaged, factory Toyota cylinder head. Lazcano Racing Engines assembled the inline six-cylinder engine, which is boosted by a 110mm Precision Turbo & Engine turbocharger with a 300-shot of nitrous from the Speedtech nitrous system to spool it up when it’s on the transbrake.

FuelTech’s FT600 ECU was wired in for control, and is tuned by Pro Line Racing’s Steve Petty, while a FuelTech FT Spark lights the fire. The fuel system consists of Brown and Miller Racing Solutions hoses and fittings, a Waterman Racing fuel pump works, a Weldon fuel pressure regulator, and a dozen 720 lb/hr FT fuel injectors.

While most Pro Import machines rely on a manual transmission with a clutch, Gonzalez elected to run a Liberty seven-speed transmission with a Quick Drive and M&M Transmission converter to ensure the 2JZ stays in its peak powerband for optimal performance. A Bohr bellhousing is being used as is a driveshaft from PST.

On FuelTech’s hub dyno, Gonzalez’ Toyota turned out 2,975.1 horsepower at 105 psi of boost, which roughly translates to around 3,300 horsepower at the crankshaft.

Gonzalez intends to run the El General Racing/Gazoo Racing Camry at events in Bradenton, Orlando, and of course, the World Cup Import vs Domestic race, where records are often broken. He’ll be driving the Toyota when he’s not behind the wheel of his domestic doorslammer at other events. Alfredo Najri will take over the driving duties for those…
