Jaguar’s vehicles are known for their elegance, performance, and luxury. New Zealand’s Graham Carter is a big fan of the Jaguar brand, and he elevated the performance of a 2005 Jaguar XKR with a big-block Chevy that’s fed a lot of boosted air thanks to an F-3R ProCharger. This kitty has some sharp claws and rips off six-second passes with ease.
Graham has always played around with anything mechanical, so it made sense for him to fall in love with all things automotive. There’s something about figuring out how things work, and then making them work better that pushed Graham towards racing.
“I love a good challenge and racing fills that need for me. Going really fast is also a lot of fun too, and that keeps me going. We could be running in the six-second zone with an altered easy, but that’s not nearly as challenging as trying to do it in a Jaguar,” Graham says.
For the past 20 years, Graham has been racing Chevy-powered Jaguars. This particular XKR was one of just three that were built in Canada, and is the last one that’s still being raced today. Graham had actually just finished building an El Camino when a friend showed him this car for sale in Perth, Australia. A week later, Graham owned the car and was working on getting it ready for the track.
Professional Hotrod Developments built the XKR. The car is equipped it with custom suspension parts that work with front struts from Strange Engineering and rear shocks from Koni. The 540 cubic inch big-block is based around a Dart Big M block. Inside the engine, you’ll find a Callies crank, MGP connecting rods, and pistons from JE. Brodix heads, a COMP Cams camshaft, and an APD blow-through carburetor make up the top end of the rat motor. An MSD Pro600 CDI and Grid are the backbone of the ignition system. A ProCharger F-3R-112 supercharger sends 30 pounds of boosted air into the engine.
Graham is very thankful for all the help he’s received in getting this Jaguar to the track.
