In the round-up: Lando Norris praised McLaren team principal Andrea Stella’s ability to get the best out of his team.
In brief
Stella’s strength in extracting best from team – Norris
Stella helped to achieved the team’s recent success through getting the best from their existing staff, rather than going on a recruiting spree from rival teams, said Norris.
“He’s a classy guy, Andrea. Very emotionally intelligent,” Norris told The Telegraph.
“That’s probably one of his biggest strengths. He knows how to make everyone feel good. A lot of the improvements we’ve made in recent years are not because we’ve hired 1,000 new people and gone, ‘right, let’s turn things upside down!’. A lot of the guys have been here for the last 10 years. They just weren’t being exploited in the best way.”
RB to “mix” upgrades in Austria
After a disappointing Spanish Grand Prix last weekend, Yuki Tsunoda says that RB plan to run a “mix” of upgraded and older parts between their two cars at the Red Bull Ring.
“We’re going to test as a team across the cars, even though we knew that it’s going to be a sprint qualifying round,” Tsunoda said.
“We wanted to know these answers soon as possible, with comparing the cars. It’s not like old or new and everything – we’re still bringing some new parts into this week. It’s kind of mixed between all of them but should be end of this week [that] we know the answer, what was causing it and what’s the direction we should take in the future.”
Extreme E unveils first hydrogen car
The Extreme E championship – which will evolve into a hydrogen-based series known as Extreme H in 2025 – have revealed their ‘Pioneer 25’ car that will be raced starting from next year.
The world’s first hydrogen-powered racing car to compete in a dedicated series was unveiled at an event in London, with Extreme E team owner Carlos Sainz Snr in attendance.
The championship will become the first FIA-sanctioned series to run with hydrogen.
“Fans can expect the same excitement with faster and more intense racing on track, but this launch is not just about a new vehicle; it’s about pioneering the future of sustainable motorsport,” said series CEO Alejandro Agag. “Hydrogen fuel cells offer a remarkable opportunity to reduce our carbon footprint and promote clean energy solutions, and we are proud to lead this charge with Extreme H.”
