Ricciardo wishes he had more than eight wins as he marks 250th F1 start · RaceFans

Daniel Ricciardo will mark the 250th start of his grand prix career this weekend but admits he wishes he’d won more of them.

The RB driver will mark the milestone with another special helmet design this weekend.

“I’m obviously proud of it,” he told the official F1 channel. “Definitely you get hit with a flood of nostalgia and I remember the first year and I remember go karting and all of it. So personally, I’ve done something cool for the helmet this weekend to kind of bring back some of that nostalgia.”

However he admitted he wished he’d scored more wins during that time. He won seven grands prix for Red Bull between 2014 and 2018, then claimed his most recent victory for McLaren in 2021.

“It’s cool, I’m proud, but eight wins in 250 races, I’d love a bigger percentage,” he said. “It’s still not too much.”

Ricciardo, who made his F1 debut in 2011, will become the 12th driver in Formula 1 history to reach 250 grands prix. He is the most experienced Australian driver of all time, ahead of Mark Webber who competed in 215 grands prix between 2002 and 2013.

His mother and father will join him for the next round of the championship at Silverstone. “It’s nice having some family time,” said Ricciardo. “Obviously it’s harder for us drivers who aren’t Europe-based because our families obviously live far away and we don’t get to see them as much. So it’s nice to then spend a few weeks with them.

“I feel like they’ve always been really good at staying out of the business side of the sport and just letting me make my own decisions and things. But, sometimes they can also offer the best advice. So they’re there when I need them and it’s nice to have that.”
