A Nostalgia Funny Car Vs. A Pro Stock Motorcycle

Weird and wacky match races have been a staple in drag racing since the sport started. Funny Cars have lined up against all kinds of different vehicles, but a supercharged nostalgia Funny Car versus an NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle is a new one. The Funny Car Chaos team made this happen at Cordova Dragway during the Summer Nationals.

The fabulous floppers that compete in the Funny Car Chaos series are just as unpredictable as the original Funny Cars they’re patterned after. These supercharged monsters frequently dip into the three-second zone in the eighth-mile and do it with style. It’s like you’re being transported back in time and are being treated to some great racing.

During qualifying at the Funny Car Chaos Summer Nationals, Jordan Ballew, pilot of the Ballew Thunder Funny Car grabbed a lane beside NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle regular Ryan Oehler. This is a matchup that has never happened before and certainly looked interesting. The race itself was actually pretty close and both racers made the full trip. When both racers crossed the finish line, Ballew picked up the win running a 4.44 at 158 mph to beat Oehler’s 4.58 at 143 mph. You can barely hear Oehler’s Buell over the roar of Ballew’s Funny Car.

In this video from the Funny Car Chaos/Nitro Chaos YouTube channel you get to see the race go down, and also hear each racer’s perspective of what it was like. It sounds like Oehler isn’t interested in a rematch due to the sheer volume of noise a Funny Car engine throws at a motorcycle rider as they rocket down the track.
