Formula 1 has confirmed the title of the forthcoming film about the sport starring Brad Pitt will be ‘F1’.
The first teaser trailer for the film will be shown in the world feed broadcast ahead of Sunday’s British Grand Prix at 2:33pm British Summer Time. The film will open in cinemas on June 25th 2025.
Filming of the picture is taking place at the British Grand Prix weekend, where the cars of the fictional ‘APXGP’ team are running as they did last year. The producers have also constructed an APXGP-branded motorhome for filming purposes, which sits alongside the real F1 teams’ facilities in the Silverstone paddock.
More filming will take place at further races over the course of the season, as was the case last year. A modified Formula 2 car has been used to film action shots on track during grand prix weekends. The crew have already filmed at the Hungaroring, Monza, Las Vegas, Yas Marina, Suzuka and other venues.
Pitt, 60, plays a former Formula 1 driver called Sonny Hayes who returns from retirement to compete in the series. His rookie team mate is played by Damson Idris. Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia and Samson Kayo also feature.
The film is being created in conjunction with Formula 1 by Apple Original Films and Warner Bros Pictures. Lewis Hamilton has been enlisted as a co-producer.
Formula 1 say the film “is immersed in the exhilarating and cinematic world of F1” and includes footage shot during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Production of the film was affected by a strike called by the Writers Guild of America union, supported by the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, though the filmmakers were able to continue capturing some footage during the disruption.
