Hungarian Grand Prix set to be one of this year’s hottest races · RaceFans

Max Verstappen, Red Bull, Hungaroring, 2023

As the region around the Hungaroring recovers from a heatwave, the Formula 1 teams can expect one of the hottest race weekends of the season so far this weekend.

Ambient temperatures should exceed 30C on all three days, reaching a peak during Sunday’s 70-lap grand prix.

A heavy downpour hit the circuit on Wednesday, causing some disruption as the teams set up their facilities in the new Hungaroring paddock. But the track will have thoroughly dried out by the time the action begins tomorrow.

Friday will give teams a close approximation of what they can expect on race day. Ambient temperatures will already be over 30C when practice begins under sunny skies. The afternoon running is expected to see some cloud cover, however, which should take the edge off the track temperatures, which often exceed 50C at this track.

Saturday will be cloudier still and temperatures are not expected to go much beyond 30C. Even so, as Pirelli is bringing its softest rubber this weekend, drivers will not have to worry about getting their tyres up to temperature in qualifying.

Sunday is forecast to be blazing hot throughout, with no respite for the sun, making this potentially the hottest grand prix of the season so far. Race day temperatures of at least 33C are forecast, with very little wind.

Some respite from the heat is due to come on Monday morning, with a slight chance of rain. Strategists will keep a close eye on whether revised forecasts over the coming days indicate that weather system may arrive any earlier, but as it stands this is set to be a very hot one.
