Aron beats Fittipaldi and Hadjar to Hungaroring pole · F2 · RaceFans

Paul Aron, Hitech, Formula 2, Hungaroring, 2024

Formula 2 championship contender Paul Aron secured his second feature race pole of the season by setting the quickest time in qualifying at the Hungaroring.

The Hitech driver took the top spot on the grid for what will likely be a very hot and challenging feature race on Sunday, less than a tenth ahead of Enzo Fittipaldi.

Championship leader and Red Bull junior Isack Hadjar was third-fastest, just under two tenths of a second slower than his rival, who moved two points closer to him in the standings thanks to his pole position. Hadjar fared far better than team mate and fellow Red Bull junior Pepe Marti, who spun out of the session at turn 11, repeating the mistake he had made in the earlier practice session.

McLaren junior Gabriel Bortoleto will line up behind Hadjar on the second row on Sunday, with Alpine’s Victor Martins heading row three in front of Dennis Hauger. Mercedes prospect Andrea Kimi Antonelli won the battle of the Prema drivers by being the team’s only representative in the top ten positions on the grid. The 17-year-old will start Sunday’s feature race from seventh on the grid, seven places ahead of his F1-bound team mate Oliver Bearman.

Former championship leader Zane Maloney will start in eighth on the grid ahead of Kush Maini. Richard Verschoor secured tenth place for the feature race and reverse-grid pole position with the final lap of the session.
