Haas completed its 2025 lineup for Formula 1 with the announcement on Thursday, July 25, that Esteban Ocon will join the team on a multi-year contract.

Ocon is currently competing in his eighth season in F1 and fifth for Alpine. In 146 starts, Ocon has been on podium three times, with the highlight being a lone victory in the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix. That was also the only victory Alpine/Renault has had in F1 since the 2008 Japanese Grand Prix.

Ocon will be replacing Kevin Magnussen and joining Oliver Bearman, Silly Season moves announced in the past few weeks.

“I am thrilled to embark on this new chapter in my Formula 1 career and join MoneyGram Haas F1 Team from the start of the 2025 season,” Ocon said in the press release. “I’ll be joining a very ambitious racing team, whose spirit, work ethic, and undeniable upward trajectory has really impressed me.

“[…] Haas F1 Team has exciting plans and clear targets for the future, and I’m very much looking forward to working with everyone in Kannapolis, Banbury and Maranello, and being part of this great project.”

It is a reunion of sorts for Ocon and team principal Ayao Komatsu, who served as the engineer for Ocon in his very first test session in an F1 car with Lotus in 2014.

“I’ve obviously been aware of his talents for a long time and our personal history dates back to Esteban’s maiden run in a Formula 1 car,” Komatsu is quoted as saying in the press release. “[…] The experience he brings 1721909954, not just from his own talent base but also from working for a manufacturer team, will be advantageous to us in our growth as an organization.”

Haas currently rank seventh in 2024 constructor standings, while Ocon ranks 18th in driver standings.
