No Belgian GP updates for Red Bull as McLaren and Mercedes continue push · RaceFans

Max Verstappen, Red Bull, Spa-Francorchamps, 2024

Red Bull have no further updates for their car at this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix but their three closest rival teams all do.

Mercedes has brought the most extensive package of updates, which will be available for both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell to use. The majority of the changes are aimed at overall performance rather than circuit-specific tuning.

The revisions to the W15 include a reshaped diffuser roof to increase downforce and new floor edge wing including an extra flap to generate more load towards the front of the floor. While Mercedes note the former change will result in an increase in drag, they intend to lessen it with other revisions to the W15.

Mercedes have also removed a flap from the aerodynamic fairing around the car’s Halo, which will reduce downforce and drag. Finally, they have reduced the camber of their front wing and beam wing to better suit the demands of the high-speed Spa track.

Ferrari and McLaren have made similar adjustments to their low-downforce trim this weekend. The SF-24 will have less powerful front and rear wings. McLaren’s changes are focused at the back of the MCL38, which has a new low-downforce rear wing and beam wing, plus alterations to the bodywork around the rear brake duct to suit.

Although Red Bull have not declared any changes for this weekend, they are expected to revert to the ‘cannon’ style engine cover bodywork which was replaced on Max Verstappen’s car in Hungary. Sergio Perez has stated the two cars will not be in the same specification this weekend, however.

Alpine and Sauber have brought extensive upgrades for their cars this weekend. Valtteri Bottas will run the only example of Sauber’s new parts, which follow on from the upgrade they brought at the previous round. Haas and RB have both brought low-downforce rear wing elements for this weekend, while Williams and Aston Martin have nothing new.
