While nearly every major series will be off this week with the Olympics in action in Paris, IMSA will return to the track at Road America for a full weekend of racing. The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will be the headliners, but four series will be racing on the 4.048-mile road course.

IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship IMSA SportsCar Weekend

The IMSA SportsCar Weekend event Sunday (Aug. 4) will have 47 teams doing battle in the four classes. This is up two entries from last year despite the LMP3 class being dropped.

The GTP class has 10 teams entered. The one team not entered is Iron Lynx with the Lamborghini SC63. That team is only participating in the Michelin Endurance Cup events.

There are no major changes of note here. All of the full-time drivers are in their regular seats.

Porsche Penske Motorsport’s Dane Cameron and Felipe Nasr enter this weekend with a 93-point lead over Chip Ganassi Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais and Renger van der Zande. Mathieu Jaminet and Nick Tandy in the second Penske Porsche are another 39 points back in third. With 385 points on offer, any of these three teams could exit with the points lead.

In LMP2, there are 12 teams entered, the same number as at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park a couple of weeks ago. Kurtz, as CEO of CrowdStrike, is still dealing with the aftermath of the botched security update that took down nearly eight million computers on July 19. There has been no word on when he will return to the track.

Braun and Kurtz enter this weekend fifth in LMP2 points with their best finish being a third at Sebring. They’ll tumble down the standings this weekend.

With no conflicts in the schedule, a number of regular drivers will return. Paul-Loup Chatin is back with AO Racing, Paul di Resta with United Autosports and Nicklas Nielsen with Richard Mille AF Corse.

There are also a couple of more changes. JDC-Miller MotorSports has entered an ORECA 07-Gibson for Scott Andrews and Gerry Kraut.

Andrews has made three starts this season in the GTD class for Lone Star Racing in a Mercedes-AMG GT3. His best finish has been an eighth at the Rolex 24 at Daytona. He will be making his IMSA LMP2 debut.

For Kraut, 72, this weekend will mark his WeatherTech debut. His experience has primarily come in the LMP3 class, but he hasn’t raced in the United States since 2021. He…
