Pin converts pole to victory in second Zandvoort race · RaceFans

Doriane Pin secured her second F1 Academy win of the season by converting pole position into victory in race two at Zandvoort.

The Mercedes junior driver was never troubled in the race, winning by just under two seconds from Maya Weug, just ahead of championship leader Abbi Pulling.

After Pulling had won the opening race of the morning from pole position, Pin had pole position for race two. When the lights went out, Pin held onto the lead into Tarzan, but Weug took advantage of a sluggish start from front row starter Pulling to move up into second place.

Pin escaped beyond a second of Weug but could not get any further away from the Ferrari-backed driver. Pulling spent several laps tucked up under Weug’s rear wing, but appeared unable to get close enough to challenge for second place.

Pin continued to control the race out front, ticking off the laps comfortably without pressure from behind. After the 17th and final lap, Pin crossed the line to seal her second victory of the season and first since the opening race of the championship in Jeddah.

Weug finished second just under two seconds later after absorbing pressure from Pulling throughout the race, beating the championship leader to the line by three tenths of a second.

Wildcard driver Nina Gademan crossed the line in fourth, as she did in the opening encounter, but she was hit with a 10-second time penalty after the stewards deemed her responsible for a clash with Aurelia Nobels half way through the race. That elevated Hamda Al Qubaisi into fourth ahead of Nobels, Carrie Schreiner, Lola Lovinfosse and Nerea Marti in eighth. Tina Hausmann took ninth, with Gademan holding onto the final point in tenth after her penalty.

Pulling continues to lead the championship by a healthy margin of 74 points from Pin after both Zandvoort races, marking the halfway stage of the season.
