Paul Goldsmith, former NASCAR Cup Series and Indianapolis 500 competitor, has died at the age of 98, Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced Sept. 6.
Goldsmith competed in eight USAC Championship events, including six straight Indy 500s from 1958-1963. He earned a best finish of third in the 1960 Indy 500.
Additionally, Goldsmith ran in several NASCAR Grand National events, winning the 1958 Daytona Beach and Road Course race. In total, he earned nine victories in the series, as well as 44 top fives and 59 top 10s. The majority of races were run with Smokey Yunick or Ray Nichels.
Goldsmith made three starts in Formula 1, earning a podium at Indianapolis in 1960.
Goldsmith is survived by his daughter, Linda Goldsmith-Slifer.
