What was supposed to be the first Formula 1-centric episode of “The Pit Straight” in some time instead has to see our attention flutter back to the NTT IndyCar Series, where a controversial and confusing charter agreement was ratified on Monday (Sept. 23).

Fortunately, this development drew attention stateside while F1’s Singapore Grand Prix produced more stories surrounding one Daniel Ricciardo than it did regarding any part of the race itself.

IndyCar’s adoption of a charter system is the product of months of negotiations against a backdrop of popular skepticism, leaving the both the short-term and extended direction of the series uncertain. Tom Blackburn, Michael Finley and Wyatt Watson join Alex Gintz this week to discuss the charter deal and offer a quick tip of the hat to F1’s Driver of the Day from this weekend.

“The Pit Straight” is Frontstretch‘s open-wheel racing podcast, available during the racing season weekly on Tuesdays on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and right here on the web.
