Conner Jones has been suspended by NASCAR for one race following an on-track incident with Matt Mills during the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the sanctioning body announced in its penalty report on Oct. 30.
Jones hit Mills midway through the Baptist Health 200 on Oct. 26, sending the No. 42 into the wall and out of the race. Jones was given a two-lap rough-driving penalty during the race and now will miss the series’ next stop at Martinsville Speedway on Nov. 1.
Mills was checked into the Jackson South Medical Center for two nights and observed for smoke inhalation. He was released from the hospital on Oct. 29 and is cleared to race on Friday.
Additionally, the No. 38 truck driven by Layne Riggs was handed a L1-level penalty for violating Section 14.3.4.A&B of the series rulebook about ballast containers. Riggs was docked 10 drivers points and Front Row Motorsports was docked 10 owners points. Crew chief Dylan Cappello was suspended for one race.
Rajah Caruth’s No. 71 crew chief Charles Walter was fined $2,500 when one lug nut “was found not safe and secure,” according to the penalty report.
In the NASCAR Xfinity Series, three crew chiefs were fined $5,000 for missing lug nuts in post-race technical inspection. Those crew chiefs are Mardy Lindley for the No. 1 of Sam Mayer, Charles Street for the No. 21 of Austin Hill and Joe Williams of the No. 39 for Kyle Sieg.
