If you’re creating a bucket list for drag racing events to attend, the World Cup Finals Import vs. Domestic (WCF) needs to be towards the top. Each year this event brings racers from multiple organizations to Maryland International Dragway (MDIR) to see who is the best in the world. Every class is heads up, and these racers run the full quarter mile. This year, the WCF will run from October 30th until November 3rd.
The 28th Annual Haltech World Cup Finals Import vs. Domestic Presented By Wiseco will feature an IBT Bikini Contest, massive vendor midway, and live entertainment to go with all the great racing action. Jason Miller and his team have perfected the art of combining the right amount of entertainment to go with all the racing at the WCF.
Racers love coming to the WCF because they know that Miller’s team is going to have the MDIR surface on kill. When you mix a track with plenty of grip and outstanding atmospheric conditions, you have everything needed to smash world records. That’s what the fans come to see each year, big numbers, tight racing, and over 300 heads-up cars battling it out for substantial purses.
Over the course of 28 years, Miller and his team have refined how the WCF is run. They talk with the racers and fans to see what they can do better to improve the event. For 2024, the race format has been adjusted to help make the final day of racing go even smoother.
“We have moved first round eliminations for the 32-car fields to Saturday night, so we are down to 16-car fields on Sunday. The goal of this change is to finish the race around 6pm, so tens of thousands of fans can stick around long enough to see the finals,” Miller says.
Now, the best way to experience the WCF is in person at MDIR. There’s nothing like it and if you’re on the fence about going, be warned it has sold out in the past. If you can’t make it to the track, the entire event will be streamed live on FloRacing.
