In the round-up: Oliver Bearman says he feels “back at home” whenever he gets the chance to drive a Formula 1 car.
In brief
Bearman ‘feels at home’ in a Formula 1 car
Bearman, who has started three grands prix as a substitute driver this year, says he feels more comfortable in an F1 car than his regular F2 machine. Asked how difficult it is to transfer from one to the other, Bearman replied: “it’s definitely tough”.
“There’s quite a different driving style between the two cars, which doesn’t make my life easy – always jumping back and forth,” Bearman told Pirelli.
“I do feel a bit natural in F1. I tend to get up to speed a bit more quickly and I feel a lot of confidence when I drive F1. I always feel like I’m back at home when I get in the F1 car, which is nice. And every time I get in the F1, I feel like that’s more and more the case. Which is a good feeling.”
Domenicali Moto GP rumours untrue
Over the weekend, reports originating from Dutch media suggested that FOM CEO Stefano Domenicali would step down from his role and move to become CEO of Moto GP promoters Dorna, once Liberty Media’s acquisition of the group was completed. RaceFans understands that there is no substance to such reports.
Some of those who shared the unfounded rumours have deleted their claims from social media.
Ugochukwu wins Macau Grand Prix
McLaren junior driver Ugo Ugochukwu scored the biggest single-seater victory of his career when he won the Macau Grand Prix, capping off a flawless weekend with pole, victory in the qualification race and victory in the main event on Sunday.
Ugochukwu was never headed despite three Safety Car appearnaces, a red flag and the best efforts of Oliver Goethe, who finished second. Noel Leon claimed the final spot on the podium in third after surviving a desperate lunge from Freddie Slater into the Lisboa corner on the final lap.
Ugochukwu will step up to the F3 championship next season with the Prema team.
