DRS is too powerful, says Coulthard

In the round-up: DRS is still too effective, believes ex-F1 driver David Coulthard

In brief

DRS still “overly effective”, argues Coulthard

Coulthard believes that DRS is still “overly effective” in helping drivers to overtake rivals, despite some zones being reduced at recent events. The former Red Bull driver retired from F1 at the end of 2008, three years before DRS was introduced.

“We just witnessed recently the grand prix in Brazil, all in damp, wet conditions, and of course, no DRS – and it was a brilliant race,” Coulthard told Formula For Success.

“So I personally feel that very often DRS is overly effective in allowing people to overtake. There used to be a real anticipation of pulling off an overtake and getting an opportunity to do so. So I’d definitely be in favour of reducing the effect of DRS. I would like to see passes being as they’ve always been, based on getting your car close enough to pick up the slipstream.”

Gasly confident Alpine can keep sixth

After Alpine jumped from ninth in the constructors’ championship to sixth place after an astonishing double podium in Brazil, Pierre Gasly believes that Alpine have the ability to hold off Haas and RB to keep the position over the triple header.

“The championship battle remains close for sixth and we want to hold on to our position so we need to make sure we execute everything in the best possible way,” Gasly said.

“We’ve proved that we can qualify well and fight for points in the races and that’s our target in Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi. It’ll be a challenge, but the team have been exceptional and I really think we can do it.”

F1 24 gets TGA nomination

EA’s official Formula 1 game, F1 24, has been nominated for the ‘Best Sports/Racing Game’ of the year at next months’ Game Awards.

Developed by Codemasters, F1 24 is the only racing game to receive a nomination. Other games in the category include EA FC 25, Top Spin 2K25 and NBA 2K25.

It is the sixth consecutive year that the annual F1 franchise has received a nomination. The Game Awards will be held on Thursday 12th December.
