Pulling claims ninth win of season after another mistake by Chambers · RaceFans

F1 Academy champion Abbi Pulling added race win number nine to her season after capitalising on a mistake from early race leader Chloe Chambers.

The Alpine academy driver lost the lead on the opening lap to Chambers. However the Haas-backed racer lost victory to Pulling for the second time today, this time with a mid-race mistake into turn 12, which allowed her rival to regain a lead she never lost.

Chambers held onto second place, with Hamda Al Qubaisi claiming her second podium of the weekend in third.

At the start, pole-winner Pulling made up for losing the lead to Chambers off the line in race one by successfully keeping the top spot heading into turn one. However, a lock-up under braking for turn six allowed Chambers to pressure her on the run to turn nine and pass the champion up the inside to take the lead.

Hamda Al Qubaisi held onto third place with Doriane Pin sitting in fourth after an underwhelming getaway. Lola Lovinfosse hit the inside kerb at turn six on the opening lap, running into Carrie Schreiner’s car and bumping it into the air, causing race ending damage for the Campos driver. The stewards issued Lovinfosse a 10-second penalty for the incident.

Chambers led the first half of the race with the top four drivers pulling away from Maya Weug in fifth. However, a mistake under braking into turn 12 allowed Pulling to dive up the inside into turn 14 to reclaim the lead.

Back out in front, Pulling managed to establish a small lead of just under two seconds as Chambers held off Hamda Al Qubaisi behind. However, the race would end under the Safety Car after Lovinfosse was involved in a second collision of the race, this time after running three-wide with Jessica Edgar and Aurelia Nobels into turn nine, hitting the inside bollard and making contact with Edgar’s car, causing damage to both cars that ended their races.

Pulling therefore won her ninth race of the season under Safety Car conditions with a disappointed Chambers having to settle for second place. Hamda Al Qubaisi finished on the podium for the second consecutive race in third.

Pin missed out on the podium in fourth with Weug fifth and Nerea Marti in sixth. Bianca Bustamante, Emely de Heus and Tina Hausmann scored points, with wildcard driver Logan Hannah promoted to the final point in tenth after penalties for Aurelia Nobels and Amna Al Qubaisi.
