Ferrari has signed a multi-year agreement with Andretti to supply power units and gearboxes for its planned Formula 1 team from 2026.
The Italian manufacturer confirmed the deal in a statement on Tuesday. Ferrari currently supplies power units to Haas and Sauber, but the latter will become Audi’s works team after next season.
Andretti’s application to enter Formula 1 was approved by the FIA last year. Formula One Management originally opposed the bid, but relented last month and stated the team had an “agreement in principle” to join the championship.
FOM changed its stance on the deal after Andretti attracted backing from General Motors through its brand Cadillac. Michael Andretti stepped down from his role in charge of the operation prior to the announcement.
FOM only referred to General Motors and Cadillac in its announcement confirming the plans to add an 11th team to the F1 grid in 2026. Cadillac confirmed Mario Andretti, 1978 world champion and father of Michael, is involved in the project as a consultant.
Ferrari’s statement said it had reached “a multi-year agreement starting from 2026 with Andretti Formula Racing LLC, regarding the supply of power unit[s] and gearbox[es] to the racing team led by TWG Global and General Motors, subject to Andretti Formula Racing LLC receiving written confirmation from the FIA–F1 that its entry to the 2026 FIA Formula One Championship has been accepted and approved.”
Cadillac is continuing work on its F1 operation, which will have bases in the USA and UK. Last week it announced the appointment of Graeme Lowdon as the team principal.
Ferrari did not indicate the length of its deal with the team. As part of its application Cadillac confirmed it intends to produce its own F1 power unit, potentially as early as 2028.
